The Town of Stacyville
Est. 1830

Although Stacyville is one of the oldest plantations in Penobscot County, it is the youngest town in the State. While John Stacy first settled the hill leading to Swift Brook in 1830, "Stacyville Plantation" was incorporated in 1953. When Stacy arrived, pine tree logging was at its zenith and remained so until 1860. At that time, the stage coach road from Macwahoc connected to what was then the county road. Over the course of the 39-mile trip to New City Camps (now known as Russell Pond in Baxter State Park) travelers would stay at the Hunt Farm's Hotel before fording the East Branch of the Penobscot River. Today, though New City no longer exists and Whetstone Falls has
replaced the river crossing near the Hunt Farm, the geography of the area remains virtually unchanged. Sitting astride the east entrance to Baxter State Park, Stacyville boasts unequaled views of Mt. Katahdin. With 24,000 acres rich in wildlife, and served by well-groomed snowmobile trails, hikers, sportsmen and sightseers alike are enchanted by this exceptional area.
