Patten, Sherman, Mt. Chase, Stacyville and surrounding areas have an abundance of Lakes, Ponds, Rivers and small Streams that provide excellent canoeing and boating. Shin Pond and Matagamon Lake are prime spots for boating. The East Branch of the Penobscot River has some very nice white water for the white water enthusiast along with some quiet water for the not so brave at heart. Fish Stream, that runs through Patten makes for a very nice day trip. Baxter State Park has many canoes in back country ponds for rent, providing transportation for the fisherman and campers.
